Te Pōhue Golf Club is a delightful 9-hole parkland course nestled in rural Hawke’s Bay, not far off the Napier–Taupō highway. Dating from the late 1960s, it’s etched into gently rolling paddocks and pine groves, offering subtle elevation changes and varied shotmaking opportunities. The layout is approachable—around 2,200–2,400 metres of golf—with homegrown character in every hole: fenced greens, natural mounds, and a few par-5s that can reward or punish depending on your ambition.
What truly gives Te Pōhue its distinct rural charm is sharing the fairways with livestock—sheep graze freely, and electric fences around greens keep play moving. It’s a quintessential “rustic Kiwi” course, where honesty-box green fees of around $5–10 apply and the spirit of DIY community golf is alive and well. There’s no clubhouse in the traditional sense, but a welcoming local feel permeates from setup to post-round conversations at the tee gate.
The surrounding landscape is quintessential Hawke’s Bay countryside—native scrub, regenerating forest, and wide rural vistas backed by the Ruahine foothills. Just across the road lies a scenic reserve with walking trails through native bush, ideal for a wander before or after your round.
