Rangitikei

Manawatū-Whanganui

Rangitikei Golf Club, affectionately known as the “Jewel of the Rangitikei,” is an inviting and beautifully maintained 18-hole championship course set just outside Bulls. Its layout features elevated tees, gently rolling fairways, and complex, fast greens that offer a compelling test of precision and strategy. The terrain feels strikingly natural—almost links-like—with mounding and contours shaped by the landscape rather than artificial design. With a par-72 and just over 6,000 yards from the back markers, it's both challenging for skilled golfers and approachable for social players.

The club offers a warm and sociable atmosphere. There’s no need for rigid tee-time bookings; casual players are often welcomed during club days held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The recently upgraded clubhouse boasts modern amenities—an EFTPOS kiosk, fully equipped bar, and Wi-Fi—plus function facilities that can host community events or celebrations. Campervans are a common sight, as many traveling golfers choose to stay overnight and soak in the relaxed vibes. Affordable green fees, cart hire, and a strong emphasis on junior and visitor engagement make this a particularly user-friendly venue.

One of the club’s most remarkable accolades comes from its own members—Craig Perks, the 2002 Players’ Championship winner, has described Rangitikei as his favourite course in the world. That speaks volumes about its quality and character. There’s also a longstanding connection to the Toyota Cup, a family-focused tournament underwritten by Toyota in recognition of local ties to motorsport legend Chris Amon and his father, Ngaio Amon, who bolstered the club’s competitive spirit.

The surrounding Rangitikei region amplifies the experience. The mighty Rangitikei River, dramatic papa cliffs, and rural farmland create a scenic backdrop ideal for a golf retreat. Bulls and nearby Marton offer quaint cafés, markets, and artisan culture, while the rolling countryside invites leisurely drives or walks. For those exploring further, courses like Rangatira (with its hill-side cable car shuttle) and Hawkestone complement the local golf itinerary beautifully.

Why play here? Rangitikei Golf Club combines a truly memorable layout, natural beauty, and heartfelt community spirit. Whether you're chasing crisp drives over lush greens, camping overnight under clear skies, or recharging with a drink in the clubhouse, the club delivers a beautifully balanced golf outing. It’s an unpretentious, visitor-friendly gem that leaves a lasting impression—just ask the former pros who hold it in such high esteem.
