Rarangi

Marlborough Te Tauihu-o-te-waka

Rarangi Golf Club is a delightful 18‑hole parkland course nestled between the surf-swept shores of Cloudy Bay and the forest‑clad hills at the foot of Mount Robertson near Blenheim. Its gently undulating fairways are lined with native trees and offer sweeping ocean views—the Pacific’s waves form a rhythmic soundtrack to your round. While the layout presents a strategic test with subtle doglegs, “pothole” bunkers, and greens that slope toward the sea, its forgiving design and spacious tree buffers make it a pleasure for players of all levels.

The clubhouse radiates a relaxed, community-minded vibe and welcomes both locals and visitors without fuss—no strict booking is needed in most cases. It’s a social hub where players unwind post‑round, share stories, and even gather for casual events or weddings. The nearby camping area adds convenience for road-trippers keen to stay overnight under Marlborough’s expansive skies. With irrigated fairways and excellent drainage, Rarangi plays well year‑round, standing strong even during wet winters or dry summers.

Beyond golf, the region offers sweeping Marlborough flavours. Just off the course, you’re moments from Cloudy Bay’s vineyards and artisan producers. The historic mouth of the Wairau River contains archaeological treasures dating back to 13th‑century East Polynesian settlers—a rich heritage backdrop to your round. Bird‑watchers will appreciate frequent tui and fantail sightings, while adventurous types can explore nearby beaches, coastal walking trails, or head into Marlborough Sounds for kayaking and wildlife spotting.

Why play Rarangi? It’s a rare mix of dramatic coastal vistas, reliable year‑round playability, and an unassuming yet well‑maintained course. If you’re touring the South Island, it makes a perfect stop between Blenheim and Picton, offering scenic golf, friendly company, and a taste of Marlborough’s natural beauty and history. Add a glass of local wine afterward, and you’ve got a day that captures the spirit of this remarkable region.
