Murupara Golf Club
Bay of Plenty - Te Moana-a-Toi
Murupara Golf Club is located in rural Bay of Plenty, around an hour and a half east of Taupō, and offers a quiet, laid back country golf experience. Set on flat land surrounded by trees and open countryside, the course has a peaceful feel and is rarely busy, making it easy to turn up and enjoy a relaxed round without pressure.
The club is run by dedicated volunteers who take pride in keeping the course playable and welcoming for locals and visitors alike. While the greens were undergoing renovation when we visited in late 2025, significant work has been done and the course is expected to be back in strong condition by mid 2026. The fairways and surrounds have continued to be well maintained throughout, ensuring the course remains enjoyable even during this improvement phase.
Murupara Golf Club is a genuine country course that rewards accuracy and smart play rather than power. With its quiet setting, interesting holes, and ongoing improvements, it’s a great option for anyone travelling through the region or looking to experience golf away from the crowds in a true rural New Zealand environment.

Condition
Murupara Golf Club was visited in late 2025 while the greens were under renovation, so earlier footage does not reflect the current standard. Since then, the greens have recovered well and are now in much better condition. The rest of the course was already being kept nicely, with fairways and general surrounds maintained at a good, playable length, making for an enjoyable country round overall. We expect this rating to improve when the green come back after the renovation.
Challenge
Murupara Golf Club biggest defence is the trees. While the course is fairly flat, tree-lined fairways place a strong emphasis on accuracy throughout the round. The closing stretch brings the river into play, highlighted by a great par hole that asks for a confident shot over the water to a small green surrounded by trees. It’s a fun and engaging layout that offers a fair challenge for golfers of all ability levels.
Facilities
Murupara Golf Club offers a full 18 hole golf course along with a clubhouse that is open on club days. Green fees can be paid using online banking or cash, making it easy for visitors to get out and play.
Value for Money
Murupara Golf Club offers very good value at $30. The course is a well thought out 18 hole layout with several interesting holes, particularly the 2nd, 16th, and 17th, which stand out during the round. For the price, it’s a pleasant and relaxed day out playing golf in rural New Zealand.
