Hamurana Springs Golf Club

Bay of Plenty Te Moana-a-Toi

Nestled along the northern shores of Lake Rotorua, Hamurana Springs Golf Club offers a wonderfully serene 9-hole course that blends gently rolling terrain, mature trees, and the tranquil flow of the Hamurana Stream. With affordable green fees and cart hire options, it’s an excellent choice for families, beginners, or visitors seeking a relaxed round of golf in a naturally beautiful setting. After your game, the onsite café and licensed bar provide the perfect spot to unwind while enjoying peaceful views of the springs and surrounding bush.

The course sits adjacent to the stunning Hamurana Springs Nature Reserve, home to the deepest natural freshwater spring in the North Island. Here, crystal-clear water emerges from underground aquifers, having filtered through volcanic rock over decades, creating vibrant turquoise and green hues. The spring flows at an impressive rate, feeding into Lake Rotorua and supporting a rich ecosystem. Visitors can walk a gentle loop track through towering redwoods and native flora, with numerous spots to pause and admire the spring, observe native birdlife, or even spot trout gliding through the cool, clear stream.

Hamurana’s tranquil setting offers more than just golf. Cultural guided walks led by local iwi share deep connections to the land, revealing Māori stories, legends, and traditions rooted in the spring’s history. The whole area feels like a sacred, peaceful retreat—perfect for those seeking a slow-paced, nature-rich experience. The golf may be casual, but the surroundings elevate the experience, making each visit something more than just a round.

For those traveling by campervan, Hamurana Reserve offers designated lakeside parking for self-contained vehicles. Located right on the lake’s edge, this quiet freedom-camping spot allows visitors to stay up to two nights per month. Amenities include public toilets, a potable water tap, a food preparation area, and nearby barbecues and a playground. It’s an ideal overnight stay for golf and nature lovers alike, with the bonus of waking up to birdsong and shimmering lake views. This peaceful, low-key setting makes it easy to slow down, breathe deep, and fully enjoy one of Rotorua’s most magical natural landscapes.
