Ohope Links Golf Club

Ohope Beach Golf Links is located at Ōhope on a narrow strip of coastal land between the Pacific Ocean and Ōhiwa Harbour, near Whakatāne. The club was formed in November 1971 when local golfers began developing a course on Crown land using volunteer labour and basic machinery.
The course opened officially on 13 April 1975 as a nine hole layout with a small membership base and basic facilities. Over the following decade, membership grew significantly, a new clubhouse was constructed by members, and the course was expanded to a full eighteen holes. The club adopted the name Ohope Beach Golf Links to reflect its coastal location and links style character.
The course is an 18 hole seaside links layout set on sandy, free draining ground. Fairways follow natural coastal contours, with uneven lies, wind exposure, and firm playing surfaces influencing shot selection. The layout prioritises positional play and adaptability rather than length. Sea views and harbour outlooks are present across much of the course, and conditions vary regularly due to weather and coastal exposure.
Club facilities have been progressively upgraded and include a modernised clubhouse with bar, lounge, and kitchen facilities. The venue is used for golf, social events, and private functions. The club operates with a combination of member support and staff management and welcomes visiting golfers.
Ohope Beach Golf Links is located close to Ōhope Beach, Whakatāne township, and regional Bay of Plenty attractions. The course suits golfers looking for a genuine coastal links experience with strong natural influence, volunteer built heritage, and a relaxed club environment.

Condition
Ohope Links is in great condition year round, with slightly wetter conditions during the winter months. As a true links course, the run offs around the greens are well manicured and play exactly as intended. Overall, the course is presented to an excellent standard and is thoroughly enjoyable to play in all seasons.
Challenge
The biggest challenge at Ohope Links is usually the wind, which can significantly change how the course plays from day to day. The fairways are undulating, and long grass waits just off line to catch any errant shots. The green complexes, with their well-designed run offs, place a real emphasis on approach play and short game skill. It’s a great test for golfers of all abilities, rewarding smart shot selection and creativity around the greens.
Facilities
Ohope Links offers a welcoming clubhouse with a great outdoor seating area, perfect for relaxing before or after your round. The club has a professional shop on site, carts available for hire, and warm up nets along with a putting green to help you prepare before heading out onto the course.
Value for Money
At $70 for affiliated players and $90 for non affiliated players, Ohope Links represents outstanding value.
